Flower Jewelry Stand

This was a very unique project for me as each flower petal was unique and individually hand made. Although they can not bee seen, each of the larger petals have holes drilled in them to accept the posts of earrings. The stem has three posts for hanging necklaces, the center of the flower has posts to hang earrings and the base has posts to put rings on. The whole thing is made out of several woods including apple for the stem, maple for the petals, black walnut, and cherry.

The trick was to learn how to make all of the pieces without spending a year to make it. What I did was make several pieces in the shape and size of each petal, using hand planes to shape the taper and hollows to shape the radius. Then cout out the individual petals on a band saw. Putting the radius on the edges of the petals was done by making several scrapers with the proper radius.

The flower center was turned on a lathe out of black walnut and I used purchased cribbage pegs for the center.

The petals are made out of maple and soaked in oil then coated with shellac

The back, while not the greatest picture, was turned out of glued up cherry and black walnut, then the points were hand cut and finished with a scraper.

I hope this was interesting to you
