Common Plane Angles
- 37.5° Low Angle Plane - primarily used for softwoods and end grain.
- 45° Common Pitch - the most common pitch for bench planes.
- 50° York Pitch - preferred by many as the ideal pitch for hardwoods.
- 55° Middle Pitch - for more difficult grain and molding planes.
- 60° Half Pitch - for really difficult grain in addition to molding planes.
- Scraper Plane - angles of attack from 80° and up-indispensable for finishing or really gnarled wood.
